A Conversation with Fundación Gestos Positivos

Fundación Gestos Positivos channels social investment toward communities in Puerto Rico through a network of supermarkets and local allies. They support initiatives in areas like education, health, agriculture, sustainable development, and crisis response, connecting resources with those on the ground to achieve real impact.

We spoke with them about their work, the challenges facing the nonprofit sector on the island, and what brought them to the Puerto Rico Nonprofit Summit.

What has been one of the most significant impacts you've achieved in the nonprofit sector or in the communities you support?

Supporting multiple nonprofit organizations in Puerto Rico, helping expand their reach and serve more participants, has been one of our greatest accomplishments. Through our model, we have been able to contribute to projects led by organizations that generate tangible changes in quality of life, access to food, and community well-being for the benefit of the communities and participants who need it most.

From your perspective, what is the greatest challenge facing nonprofit organizations in Puerto Rico today?

The greatest challenge is sustainability. Many organizations do extraordinary work in their communities, but they face limitations in accessing stable resources that would allow them to continue their mission.

How do you envision the future of the nonprofit sector on the island in the coming years?

We envision a more connected and collaborative sector, where organizations, businesses, and donors work together to achieve broader and more sustainable impact in communities. We believe in alliances as a way to grow and expand our reach, and that's the direction we'll keep moving in.

Why did you decide to be part of the Puerto Rico Nonprofit Summit, and what does this space mean to you?

We decided to participate because we believe in the importance of creating spaces for connection, learning, and collaboration within the sector. The Summit is an opportunity to share experiences, identify common challenges, and strengthen the alliances that make possible the change we want for a better Puerto Rico.

How can nonprofit organizations benefit from what you offer?

We are an ally. Beyond the financial donation, we also count on a deeply valuable human resource, which is our people. We will continue supporting projects of change and transformation for Puerto Rico, creating alliances and connecting with those allies already on the ground in the communities so that the resources needed arrive and multiply.

We thank Fundación Gestos Positivos for being part of this effort and for their commitment to strengthening the nonprofit ecosystem in Puerto Rico.
